    On successful completion of the course and the requisite watch keeping experience, officers will be prepared for taking full responsibility for the safety of the ship, its passengers, crew and cargo. They will be aware of their obligations under international agreements and conventions concerning safety and the protection of the marine environment and will be prepared for taking the practical measures necessary to meet those obligations.
Entry standards
    2 years pre-sea training from any DG approved Marine Training Institute and at least 12 months sea service in ocean going vessel and holding Valid CDC.
Course intake limitations
    Class sizes should generally be limited to not more than 24 in order to allow the instructor to give adequate attention to individual trainees. Larger numbers may be admitted if extra staff and tutorial periods are provided to deal with trainees on an individual basis.

    The learning objectives of this course have been designed to provide a sound base for the student in order that he may be well equipped to function efficiently on board the ship.
    The methods of evaluation have been chosen to assess a student for his knowledge, comprehension and application of the course content. The methods that are intended to be used, include question & answer discussions, objective tests, matching of items and supply of short/long answers to prepared questions.
    Where the course content is aimed at the acquisition of practical skills, practical demonstration test for the trainee would be conducted with appropriate equipment/tools.
    The response demanded from the trainee will comprise the following:-
       Class test, Model test and assignment.
       The recall of facts or information, by viva-voce or objective tests.
       The practical demonstration of an attained skill.
       The oral or written description of procedures or activities.
       The identification and use of data from sketches, drawings, maps, charts, etc.
       The writing of an essay or report.
       Final Model Test
    The trainee must score 75% marks to be declared eligible to seat for examination in DG Shipping, Dhaka. The pass Mark for signaling is 90%, ROR 100% and Orals 95%. In the event the trainee does not attain the pass percentage, he will be allowed to appear for two re-examinations (RESITS). If the trainee still does not pass the RESITS, he will be required to undergo the course once again.
